Can a Man and a Woman Be Friends?

Can a man and a woman (not married to one another) be friends? Not "friendly acquaintances". True FRIENDS.

I'm not seeing it, but I suspect many of you do.

Worldly Ambition

Which is the greater evil, being ambitious for oneself or being ambitious for one's mate or child(ren)? Is there a difference?

Or is ambition a virtue?

Are You Indispensable?

Feel free to use this post to comment on the advisability of staying home when sick and you have important things to do, such as:

  • deadline at work
  • social engagement
  • there's nobody else to man the church nursery
  • ... insert your own situation

Yes, I am sick. And yes, I am staying home.

On Being Grateful

When my friend asked this question today, I knew it had to be shared:

Can one be grateful for something and also not like it?

Hmmm ...

Is Potluck the New Etiquette?

If someone invites me over to dinner, am I being more or less polite if I offer to bring something? Does that change as I become more insistent?

And if I link to Meg Logan's Blog, where this question originated, will she invite me to dinner? Of course, I have absolutely no idea where she lives ...

Part B

When my friend asked Part A of this question, she and her husband were considering adopting. Now I can't remember her exact wording, and in the interest of being an equally opportunity riveter, I'm posting options:

  1. When do you have quiet time?

  2. When do you find time to nurture your spiritual life?

  3. When do you read your bible?

  4. Or, related to How Much Conversation Do You Need?, how much time alone do you need on a daily basis?

My answer, in the form of a rough draft of my schedule, I posted to The Space Between My Peers about a month ago.

BTW, do you think the last one deserves a post of its own?

How Much Sleep Do You Get?

Many thanks to my friends from the other blog, Maria Palma and The Bargain Queen, for taking a stab at that first question. It remains open, of course.

Recently posed by a friend whose kids are grown, to a
mother of pre-schoolers, today's question is not just for moms. After all, we all have to sleep, don't we?

Answer this one now and come back (maybe Monday?) for part B.

Conversation: Food or Fluff?

In this classic post at The Space Between My Peers, I ask a series of riveting questions. What it all boils down to is this: is conversation a legitimate need in a healthy life or is it a waste of time?

Extra points for chapter and verse.

Riveting Questions

Once upon a time a friend commented that I tend to ask "riveting questions". It's fun to share. In the course of real life, and real blog life too, I often think of questions I'd like to share more generally.

Introducing my question dumping ground. Stay tuned.
